Stranger Things season 4 is currently in limbo thanks to the ongoing global situation, but that does not mean we cannot get excited, particularly when the talent behind the hit show continues to make the upcoming series sound like it could be the best yet. David Harbour, who, of course, plays the delightfully grumpy hero Jim Hopper on the show, has been discussing what audiences can expect, and it sounds like Stranger Things is about to delve into Hopper's still somewhat mysterious backstory.

According to David Harbour, Eleven will discover "five boxes, one of which has Brenner's stuff from Hawkins Lab, one of which says 'Dad,' and one of which says 'Vietnam,' and one says 'New York,'" Harbour said during a recent appearance at Liverpool Comic-Con.

"So there are these three things that we've established in the season that if we don't pay off, it means that they're bad writers. And the Duffer brothers are very good writers. So I know specifically that in Season 4 we will give you a big, huge reveal about Hopper's backstory."

He added that fans have "sort of sensed that in certain ways, but we haven't really told you about [it]," and pointed to past revelations that Hopper lost young daughter Sara to cancer and that he was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War.

"I'm so excited about revealing this aspect of the character. It's one of the things that I've known since the first frame of the first shot, and we haven't expressed it yet. And finally, we're gonna express it in a big way. It's my favorite thing about him that you guys don't know about him yet, but it has to do with these backstories of New York, Vietnam, and dad. And I'm really excited for you guys to know more about that, and it relates, of course, to things he's doing with Eleven and Joyce and things like that."

Harbour teased the mystery further, adding that, "It's a big reveal, and I'm really excited for you to see it. So whenever it comes out in 2050, when the next season comes out, you'll get to see that."

Despite seemingly meeting his demise at the end of the third season, the Stranger Things season 4 trailer has already shown us that this was not the case, and that Hopper is now being imprisoned in Russia, where he is sure to face dangers both human... and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long-buried, something that connects everything, and will no doubt once again thrust the small town of Hawkins back into turmoil.

The fourth season will continue to be produced by the show's creators, the Duffer Brothers, along with Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Iain Paterson. The show's main cast are all set to return with the likes of Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, and Cara Buono, with Priah Ferguson and Brett Gelman all set to reprise their roles.

Production of the fourth season began in February 2020, with the season expected to be released during the 2020-21 television season. However, production of the series was halted in March due to current circumstances, leaving it with no current release date. This comes to us from Monopoly Events.
