The first Stranger Things season 3 teaser is here. Netflix has yet to officially set a release date for the third season of their beloved 80s-centric sci-fi series, but production is well underway and they're ready to start teasing the new season for eager fans. This first video introduces us to the fancy new Starcourt Mall, which is making its way to Hawkins, Indiana next season and, by the looks of things, could serve as a very important location.
The teaser plays out like a corny old commercial for the Starcourt Mall. There are plenty of locations one might expect to see in a mall in 1985, which should ring the nostalgia bells quite loudly for those who remember pursuing such stores. We also see Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) working his summer job at the Scoops Ahoy ice cream shop alongside Robin, played by series newcomer Maya Hawke. Netflix released this with the video, describing the attractions that come with Hawkins' new mall.
"Coming to Hawkins in the Summer of 1985...the Starcourt Mall! Starcourt Mall will be one of the finest shopping facilities in America and beyond with options for the entire family. Including The Gap, Waldenbooks, Sam Goody, Claire's and more! Don't forget to cool off at Scoops Ahoy Ice Cream shop. Starcourt Mall has it all!"
One can't help but think of Dawn of the Dead just a little bit while watching this. Could they be setting up a mall-based horror story for season 3? A potentially disappointing element of this promo is that it reveals we could be waiting a while for Stranger Things season 3. While it doesn't outright confirm we're going to have to wait until next year, the video ends with, "coming next summer." That hints at a potential summer 2019 premiere date, which is certainly not what fans of the show want to hear.
Assuming that ends up being the case, that means we're also probably going to have to wait a while to see an actual trailer for Stranger Things season 3. What we know for sure is that the upcoming season takes place during the summer of 1985 and that it will focus very specifically on that period of time. It's also been teased that this will be darker than previous seasons.
In addition to a new shopping mall, Hawkins is also getting some more new residents in the form of Jake Busey as Bruce, Francesca Reale as Heather and Cary Elwes as Mayor Kline. Stranger Things has proved to be one of the biggest hits that Netflix has produced to date, but the streaming service has also shown that they will take their time when producing a new season of a hit show if need be. They won't rush things and sacrifice quality to meet a deadline. That may be frustrating for impatient viewers, but Stranger Things season 3 is coming.
