Stranger Things season 2 is here, but many fans have already binged their way through the highly-anticipated new episodes. The good news is that Netflix has already given the green light to a third season of Stranger Things, which means we're not yet done with Eleven and the gang. The potentially frustrating news is that it could be a while before we see Stranger Things season 3. So the question is, when will Strangers Things season 3 be released?

The fact remains that Netflix has not revealed an official release date for Stranger Things season 3, but there's a good reason for that. Odds are, they don't know exactly when it will be done at this point. Ross Duffer and Matt Duffer are already hard at work and some of the scripts are in place, but filming isn't expected to take place for a little while. Also, the young cast is aging, which could give us a big clue that Stranger Things season 3 could be a while away. Matt Duffer says that they simply can't hop right into the action in the next season.

"Even if we wanted to hop into the action faster, we couldn't. Our kids are aging."

So, even though some would like to see Stranger Things season 3 pick up right where season 2 left off, that's not going to be the case. Matt Duffer is heavily implying that there is going to be a bit of a time jump in the next season. If that's indeed going to be the case, that means they actually have some time to get season 3 together and that could give them a little extra creative mileage. They may not have to rush it, as much as fans, and likely Netflix, may want it.

Stranger Things season 1 debuted in July of 2016. Even though the Duffers got to work right away on season 2, it didn't debut until about 15 months later. So even in the absolute best case scenario, we'll see Stranger Things season 3 debut toward the very end of 2018. Maybe we could get a Christmas gift from Netflix next year? The other thing to consider is that Stranger Things is likely to end after season 4, which could affect the strategy for season 3.

"We're thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out. They're going to have to get the f*ck out of this town! It's ridiculous!"

Who knows? Maybe Netflix will wind up shooting Strangers Things season 3 and 4 back-to-back? In any case, at this point, based on Matt Duffer's recent comments to The Hollywood Reporter, we can't possibly expect the next season of Stranger Things to drop until very late next year. It's entirely likely we won't see more Stranger Things until 2019. But rest assured, sure as you were born, we're getting more Stranger Things.
