Straight from the grounds of San Diego Comic-Con, we finally have the first full-length trailer for Steven Universe: The Movie. Cartoon Network initially announced last year that they intended to give the series a feature-length continuation. Unfortunately for fans, updates have been few and far between in the time since. That all ends today, as we not only have the trailer for this action-packed musical adventure, but the movie has finally been given a premiere date. Mark your calendars for September 2, everyone.

The Comic-Con trailer kicks off with our titular hero getting back to the simple life, enjoying a quiet, tranquil existence with his pals. But that doesn't last long, as a sinister new villain emerges to disrupt his happily ever after. The stakes are incredibly high, as this new threat intends to wipe out all organic life on Earth. As the montage kicks in, highlighting all of the action, we get a taste of the music that will be included. This is a musical, after all.

Steven Universe: The Movie centers on Steven, who returns to his home on Earth in the hopes of picking back up his life with the Crystal Gems. However, trouble suddenly comes in the form of a mysterious figure who has deadly plans for Steven's home. While it hasn't yet been confirmed, there is a strong possibility that the movie could serve as the series finale. Creator Rebecca Sugar teamed with several major music stars for the upcoming musical special, including Chance The Rapper, LuPone, Estelle, Aduba, Gallant and Aimee Mann. Sugar and Estelle debuted one of the new songs from the movie True Kinda Love, for the audience in attendance at SDCC. We've included the video for you to check out.

To go along with the trailer, we've also included the recently released poster for the movie. Steven Universe debuted on Cartoon Network in 2013. To date, five seasons have aired, making for a total of 160 episodes. Aside from its impressive run, in terms of length, the series has been praised critically for its animation style, storytelling and boundary-pushing. Specifically, its LGBTQ representation has been a highlight, which included a same-sex marriage last season. Steven Universe: The Movie will first debut on Cartoon Network before being made available via digital platforms and Blu-ray/DVD at a later date.
