We have a brand new poster for Star Trek: Picard. This latest series is still something of a mystery, but the big thing here is that Patrick Stewart will be returning to the role of Jean Luc Picard for the first time on a TV series since The Next Generation went off the air in 1994. This time around though, things are going to be quite different, as we can see in this first poster.

The poster expands upon what we saw in the first teaser trailer. Picard is no longer a captain. In fact, he's left Starfleet altogether and is living the quiet life on what appears to be a winery. Next to the former Starfleet leader is a dog who appears to be rather close with his owner. Picard, himself, is looking rather despondent and like, perhaps, his best days are behind him. What happened? Why did he leave Starfleet? This poster raises questions. CBS also unveiled a motion version of the poster, and we've included both below. The poster was shared with the following caption.

"Follow Picard into the next chapter of his life. #StarTrekPicard"

Since the release of Star Trek: Discovery on CBS All Access, the network has been ramping up their efforts with the franchise on the small screen, while the future of the movies remains somewhat in flux. But this is easily the most highly-anticipated of anything coming down the pipeline. Outside of The Next Generation, Patrick Stewart portrayed the character in Star Trek; Generations (1994), Star Trek: First Contact (1996), Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) and Star Trek: Nemesis (2002). So this will be his first time back in nearly two decades.

It was recently revealed that CBS will bring Star Trek: Picard to San Diego Comic-Con this year. The series will be discussed during the Enter the 'Star Trek' Universe panel, which is scheduled for Saturday, July 20 in Hall H. Sir Patrick Stewart will be on hand, alongside fellow cast members Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Harry Treadaway. Executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman and Heather Kadin will also be in attendance.

It's highly likely this is where we'll learn a whole lot more about the show. It's also extremely likely this is where a full-length trailer will be unveiled. Whether or not it's made available online right away is another question entirely. Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers on the series. Chabon was recently named as showrunner. CBS has not yet announced a release date for the show, but it will air exclusively on the CBS All Access streaming service and is expected to debut later this year. Be sure to check out the new poster below. This news was first reported by StarTrek.com.
