Whoopi Goldberg is boldly going back to the Star Trek universe. Goldberg is officially joining the cast of Star Trek: Picard season 2 on CBS All Access. Patrick Stewart, who is reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard in the new show, personally extended the invitation to his former castmate on live TV, and things got rather emotional in a hurry.
Patrick Stewart appeared on The View, which Whoopi Goldberg co-hosts, to promote Picard, which recently debuted its first episode. At one point during the conversation, Stewart jumped in to say that he had something he needed to bring up. He then turned to Goldberg and revealed that they hoped she would come back as Guinan in Picard Season 2. Stewart said the following.
"I'm here with a formal invitation, and it's for you, Whoopi. Alex Kurtzman, who is the senior executive producer of Star Trek: Picard, and all his colleagues, of which I am one, want to invite you into the second season."
The actress was quick to say yes, which led to the two having a warm embrace. The audience in the studio went crazy for the whole thing. Patrick Stewart and Whoopi Goldberg previously shared the screen during Star Trek: The Next Generation. Goldberg, after accepting the invitation to come back for season 2, had this to say.
"I've said this on the show before, but Star Trek was one of the great experiences, from the beginning to the end. I had the best, best, best time. Best time ever."
