Another classic character from The Next Generation may be returning for Star Trek: Picard season 2. LeVar Burton has revealed that he has been in discussions for a possible return as Geordi La Forge. Should it come to pass, and Burton seems optimistic about things, it would mark a long-awaited reunion between Geordi and Jean Luc Picard.

Star Trek: Picard season 1 recently wrapped up its run on CBS All Access. The streaming service renewed the show for a second season early on, which means work is already well underway. During a recent interview, LeVar Burton, who starred alongside Patrick Stewart on The Next Generation, was asked if he's had conversations about reprising his role. Here's what Burton had to say about it.

"I think it is reasonable to assume that those people are still a part of Picard's life...Sure what the hell. Yeah! Absolutely. [laughs]... You will see us all. Probably not all at the same time, although, never say never."

Season 1 featured quite a few stars from TNG including Brent Spiner as Data, Jonathan Frakes as Riker, Marina Sirtis as Troi and Jonathan Del Arco as Hugh. Voyager star Jeri Ryan also reprised her role as Seven of Nine. LeVar Burton was one of the biggest missing pieces of the puzzle. We haven't seen Geordi La Forge on screen since the 2002 movie Star Trek: Nemesis. Speaking further, Burton explained that he's discussed what he thinks Geordi should be up to when we see him again.

"I have suggested to the producers that we find Geordi in a position where he is teaching and passing that knowledge and information on to another generation. We'll see. Alex [Kurtzman] and the folks are in charge and they are doing an amazing job. When they call and whatever they want me to do, I'm pretty sure it is going to be spectacular."

This could easily be perceived as a callback to the other role LeVar Burton is most famous for, as host of Reading Rainbow. Burton is passionate about education and folding that into his role on Star Trek has an understandable appeal. As far as other stars from The Next Generation who could turn up in season 2, Gates McFadden's Dr. Crusher, Michael Dorn's Worf) and Wil Wheaton's Wesley Crusher have also yet to appear. It was previously revealed by Patrick Stewart on an episode of The View that Whoopi Goldberg will return as Guinan.

The main cast for the series includes Alison Pill (Dr. Agnes Jurati), Isa Briones (Dahj), Evan Evagora (Elnor), Michelle Hurd (Raffi Musiker), Santiago Cabrera (Cristobal Rios) and Harry Treadaway (Narek). There is no word yet on when season 2 will premiere, but the ongoing production shutdown will inevitably affect whatever plans CBS originally had in place.
