The new teaser trailer for the Hulu animated series Solar Opposites gives us our first look at the new show from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland. As can be seen in the teaser, the art style of Solar Opposites is very reminiscent to the look of Rick and Morty, and it's clear that the new series will feature the same unique sense of humor as well. Needless to say, big fans of the Adult Swim series will especially want to have this series on their radar before the series launches this May. You can see what I mean by watching the teaser trailer below.

New Hulu animated series Solar Opposites is co-created by Roiland and Mike McMahan, with 20th Century Fox Television producing the project. The voice cast for the new series has also been revealed, with its regulars including Justin Roiland, Thomas Middleditch, Mary Mack, and Sean Giambrone. Several guest voice actors will be featured in the freshman season as well, including Alan Tudyk, Amanda Leighton, Alfred Molina, Christina Hendricks, Phil LaMarr, Rainn Wilson, Tom Kenny, Vargus Mason, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and many, many more.

According to the press release, Solar Opposites follows a "team of four aliens who have escaped their exploding home world, only to crash land into a move-in ready home in suburban America. They are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo (Justin Roiland) and Yumyulack (Sean Giambroni) only see the pollution, crass consumerism, and human frailty, while Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Jesse (Mary Mack) love humans and all their TV, junk food, and fun stuff. Their mission: protect the Pupa, a living super computer that will one day evolve into its true form, consume them and terraform the Earth."

It appears Roiland is now following a similar path as his animation contemporaries Matt Groening (The Simpsons) and Seth Macfarlane (Family Guy), each of whom have found great success in developing spin-off shows with similar animation. For Groening, that includes the sci-fi series Futurama and more recently the Netflix series Disenchantment. Meanwhile, Macfarlane developed another animated hit in American Dad before repeating the process with The Cleveland Show. Given the popularity of Rick and Morty with today's television viewers, it seems the odds are in Roiland's favor for Solar Opposites to find its own way on Hulu as well, completely separate from Rick and Morty's ongoing run on Adult Swim.

Unsurprisingly, Roiland also touched on what's been happening in the world lately, adding humor to the situation to encourage people to anticipate the show by staying indoors. "Solar Opposites is coming! We can only show you the teaser right now, but the whole season will be out in a matter of weeks! Stay inside and stay healthy so you can watch and love this show and call us geniuses and all that sh-t," Roiland says in a statement. Sounds good to me. Watch out for the show to premiere on Hulu on May 8. The Solar Opposites teaser trailer shown above comes to us from Hulu on YouTube.
