Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd are reuniting for the new limited series The Shrink Next Door. The two haven't worked on screen together since 2013's Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. The upcoming dark comedy series is based on the popular podcast of the same name from Wondery and Bloomberg, which tells the true story of a bizarre relationship between a psychiatrist and one of his patients. Things get pretty weird, making Rudd and Ferrell a good choice to headline the show.

The Shrink Next Door is a dark comedy that follows the relationship between entertainment industry psychiatrist Dr. Isaac "Ike" Herschkopf, who is played by Paul Rudd, and his longtime patient Martin "Marty" Markowitz, who is played by Will Ferrell. Ike is very charming and over the course of their relationship, he slowly starts to take over Marty's life. He ends up moving into Marty's home and taking over his family business during their time together. The upcoming series is set to explore "how a seemingly normal doctor-patient dynamic morphs into an unprecedentedly exploitative one filled with manipulation, power grabs, and dysfunction at its finest."

The Shrink Next Door podcast is hosted and written by veteran journalist Joe Nocera. As it turns out, he was the real-life neighbor of Dr. Isaac "Ike" Herschkopf in the Hamptons. Ike counted celebrities and Manhattan elites as his patients and he'd host star-studded parties at his eccentric vacation house. However, things change when Ike disappears. Nocera conducted an investigation of his own to figure out what happened and learns that everything he thought about Dr. Ike was incredibly wrong. The podcast debuted in May 2019 and quickly became number one on iTunes.

Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd have yet to comment on The Shrink Next Door, but we'll be hearing a lot more about it in the near future. As for where the show will end up, that is a mystery at the moment. No network or streaming service is attached at the moment, though it is being made by Media Rights Capital (MRC) Television. A safe bet would be the HBO Max streaming platform, though that has yet to be confirmed. Netflix could also take a chance on the series since they've already worked with Rudd before on Living with Yourself. Wherever it ends up, the limited series is sure to gain a ton of attention based on the popularity of the podcast alone.

The Shrink Next Door limited series will be directed by Michael Showalter The Big Sick and written by Georgia Pritchett. Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Brittney Segal will executive produce for Gloria Sanchez Productions. Paul Rudd and Pritchett will also serve as executive producers on the series. Hernan Lopez and Marshall Lewy for Wondery and Jared Sandberg, Katie Boyce, and Francesca Levy for Bloomberg Media will also serve as executive producers, with original podcast creator Joe Nocera as co-executive producer. Deadline was the first to report on the new series.
