Marvel Studios is rumored to be looking for an "Alison Brie-type" to play Jennifer Walters in their upcoming She-Hulk television series for Disney+, and now many fans are calling for Brie herself to get the role. According to news scooper Daniel Richtman, rumor is that Brie is on the studio's wish list for their She-Hulk casting, though it's unclear if she has yet been approached or if any discussions have taken place. Still, the rumor is enough to have some of Brie's fans excited, as the GLOW star's name has since started trending on Twitter with people supporting the potential casting.
Previously, many She-Hulk fans seemed to have their sights set on bringing in Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz to play the titular superheroine. At one point, Beatriz herself spoke about the fan casting and said she would "die" to have the opportunity to play that role. For better or for worse, however, Beatriz recently suggested it wouldn't be possible for her to take the part if offered, as she'll be busy filming season 8 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine when She-Hulk begins shooting this summer. This sent fans back to the drawing board for more dream casting, and Brie seems to be very quickly emerging as a new frontrunner for the lead role.
Some of the other popular fan casting suggestions for She-Hulk have gotten some attention, though none of them really seem to be the "Alison Brie-type" the studio is reportedly looking for. The Mandalorian actress Gina Carano appears to have a lot of fans on board with her playing the role, and some convincing fan art of her as She-Hulk suggests she would be another great choice. Similarly, Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie has had her name come up many times as a possible She-Hulk candidate. While both of these actresses have turned in amazing performances elsewhere, it would appear that many feel Brie would be a better fit for She-Hulk.
Brie is very well known for her starring roles in various television series like Community, Mad Men, and Bojack Horseman. More recently, she has since shown that she has a tougher side to her as well by leading the Netflix wrestling drama GLOW, which earned her several award nominations at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Golden Globes. While many of us may not have immediately thought of someone like Brie, it's really easy to see now that the name has been brought up, and the rumor's popularity suggests it may actually be the perfect casting choice.
She-Hulk is scheduled to shoot in Atlanta this summer with the series likely premiering on Disney+ in 2021. No official casting announcements have yet been made, but it seems likely we'll see Mark Ruffalo reprising the role of Bruce Banner for the series, as Bruce plays a major part in Jennifer Walters' origin story in the comic books.
