Less than one week after securing his first Oscar nomination, Whiplash star J.K. Simmons has been set to host the January 31 episode of Saturday Night Live. He will be joined by musical guest D'Angelo. Take a look at NBC's official press release below:

Golden Globe winner and Academy award nominee J.K. Simmons will make his hosting debut on January 31. The Screen Actors Guild nominee stars in the critically-acclaimed and Academy award nominated film, Whiplash, currently in theaters.

D'Angelo will also make his musical guest debut along with his band The Vanguard. After a 14 year hiatus, his latest album "Black Messiah" received wide acclaim from critics and fans worldwide.

Saturday Night Live is produced in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels.

Along with his critically-acclaimed performance in Whiplash, J.K. Simmons also recently starred in Men, Women & Children, and he will next be seen later this year in Terminator Genisys. He has also signed on to star in the highly-anticipated Kong: Skull Island and The Accountant alongside Ben Affleck and his Up in the Air co-star Anna Kendrick.
