Adult Swim is excited to announce that Jack is Back. Creator and executive producer Genndy Tartakovsky continues the epic story of Samurai Jack with a new season that will premiere on Adult Swim's Toonami block in 2016. The new season is currently in production in Los Angeles at Cartoon Network Studios. Adult Swim has released the first trailer for the return of Samurai Jack, along with a new poster.

Samurai Jack originally aired for four seasons on Cartoon Network, with a 52-episode run that aired between 2001 and 2004. The series is set in a distant land, following a great warrior displaced to the distant future by the evil shape-shifting wizard Aku. The world has become a bleak place under the rule of Aku, segregated into fantastic tribes and ruled by Aku's evil robot warlords. Jack travels this foreign landscape in search of a time portal that can return him to his home time so he can "undo the future that is Aku!"

The original series featured Phil LaMarr voicing the title character, with Mako voicing the villainous Aku. Other voice cast members include Kevin Michael Richardson, Jeff Bennett, Tom Kenny, Grey Griffin, Jennifer Hale, Daran Norris, John Di Maggio and Sab Shimono. No voice cast members have been announced for the new TV series at this time.

Series creator Genndy Tartakovsky revealed way back in 2012 that Sony Pictures Animation was considering making an animated movie adaptation of Samurai Jack, but we haven't heard anything about that project since then. The filmmaker recently directed the studio's Hotel Transylvania and Hotel Transylvania 2, but we reported earlier this year that the studio will be making Hotel Transylvania 3 without the director. Genndy Tartakovsky also created beloved animated shows such as Dexter's Laboratory and Sym-Bionic Titan.

While we wait for more details to unfold regarding Samurai Jack, take a look at the new trailer and poster below. Are you looking forward to Samurai Jack returning to the small screen next year? Do you think Genndy Tartakovsky should also try to bring back Dexter's Laboratory and Sym-Bionic Titan as well? Let us know what you think, and stay tuned for more updates.
