Veteran actor Sam Lloyd, famous for his memorable role as Ted Buckland in the comedy series Scrubs, has sadly passed away. In early 2019, Lloyd was diagnozed with an inoperable brain tumor, with the grim news coming just a matter of weeks after the birth of his son Weston with wife Vanessa. Scrubs producer Tim Hobert and his wife rushed to lend some support to Lloyd by creating a GoFundMe page to help pay for Lloyd's medical bills and other expenses, ultimately raising over $150,000. Though Lloyd had maintained his good spirits, his health took a turn for the worse on Friday when the actor died at the age of 56.

The sad news of Lloyd's passing has since been touched on by Scrubs star Zach Braff with a post on social media. "Rest In Peace to one of the funniest actors I've ever had the joy of working with," Braff says on Twitter. "Sam Lloyd made me crack up and break character every single time we did a scene together. He could not have been a kinder man. I will forever cherish the time I had with you, Sammy."

Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence also posted a touching tribute to Lloyd on his Twitter account. "Thinking a lot about Sam Lloyd today," Lawrence writes, including a photo of Lloyd from the Scrubs set. "He will be missed by so many," Lawrence adds, with the actor's family, friends, and fans all missing him already in the wake of this shocking news.

In March, Hobert posted an update on the GoFundMe page for Lloyd to let all of the actor's fans know just how much Lloyd had been making the best of the time he had left. From GoFundMe:

"In the 13 months since Sam's original diagnosis, with help from you guys (incredible people from all over the world), he has made the most of the time that he has been given. He was able to go back to his home state of Vermont and play his annual gig with his Beatles band, The Butties. He was able to do guest spots on Modern Family and American Housewife that allowed him to qualify for the Screen Actors Guild insurance policy. He was able to spend time with dear friends, help his mother in the last stages of her life, and sing for her at her funeral, and most importantly, he was able to spend time with his wife, Vanessa, and celebrate Weston's first birthday."

Samuel R. Lloyd IV was born on Nov. 12, 1963. A nephew to Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd and son of actor Sam Lloyd III, Lloyd was perhaps destined to become an actor as well. During his career, Lloyd would take on memorable roles in shows like Malcolm in the Middle, The West Wing, and Desperate Housewives. He also would appear in movies including Flubber, Galaxy Quest, and The Brothers Solomon. Of course, his most well-known role is that of lawyer Ted Buckland, whom he portrayed on Scrubs in nearly a hundred episodes; Lloyd would reprise the role in the spin-off series Cougar Town as well.

Additionally, Lloyd was an accomplished musician, playing bass guitar for The Beatles tribute band The Butties and singing a cappella for a group called The Blanks. He was clearly a man of many talents, and at just 56 years old, the hilarious actor and excellent performer is leaving this world far too soon. May he rest in peace as his legacy lives on.
