I don't know about you guys out there, but I was a pretty massive fan of Joe Murray's animated series Rocko's Modern Life as a kid. So as you might imagine, I'm looking forward to checking out Netflix's upcoming one-hour special Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling. And today Netflix has shared not only a new clip from the upcoming event but the release date as well. Yes, you can check out the clip below and then make sure to mark your calendars as Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling will be hitting Netflix on August 9, 2019.

Rocko's Modern Life premiered on Nickelodeon back on September 18, 1993, and ran for four seasons and 52 episodes before ending on November 24, 1996. Again, I was a big fan of the series back in the day. Actually, it might have been my younger brother that was a major fan, and I just watched it by proxy. But either way, the show was hilarious, and I never turned down a chance to watch it. Sure our family watched the classic Nickelodeon cartoons such as Doug, Rugrats, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, and Hey Arnold!. But I loved Rocko's Modern Life. Like Ren & Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life was a bit grosser, and more grown-up than the other cartoon's on Nick at the time. Sure it's all tame as hell by today's standards, but all the same, seeing a turtle pick his nose and feed it to a fat baby is always good times in my book.

For those of you just tuning in on this Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling news, the special will follow Rocko and his friends who attempt to conform to an even more modern life in a technologically advanced O-Town, after being in space for 20 years. Oh, and fittingly, Rocko tries to get his favorite show back on the air. Nice touch. Carlos Alazraqui returns for this special as the voice of Rocko and Spunky along with Tom Kenny as Heffer Wolfe, Mr. Lawrence as Filburt, and Charlie Adler as Ed & Bev Bighead. Linda Wallem joins the fun as well as Crazy Aunt Gretchen, along with Joe Murray as Ralph Bighead, Jill Talley as Nosey, Steve Little as Cowboy, and Cosmo Serguson as Pillow Salesman.

Joe Murray directs Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling along with Cosmo Serguson from a screenplay they co-wrote along with Dan Becker and Tom Smith. Ilene Gannaway and Raymie Muzquiz are the special's producers. Originally slated to premiere on Nickelodeon in 2018, it was left unaired with no updated release information from the network. In May 2019, it was announced that Netflix had acquired the distribution rights to the film. It is slated to release on August 9, 2019.

Again, I, for one, know that I'll be tuning in for this semi-revival of Nickelodeon's Rocko's Modern Life when it hits next month. If for no other reason than maybe it will persuade Netflix to produce some revivals of other beloved Nickelodeon cartoons such as the above-mentioned Doug, Rugrats, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, and Hey Arnold!. For my kids' sake, you know. This story comes to us from Netflix Family Twitter.
