Robert Plant has revealed that he was offered a chance to appear on Game of Thrones, but decided to turn it down. The hit HBO series has a history of involving musicians from all different types of genres including, Sigur Ros, Coldplay, Mastodon, and Ed Sheeran, to name a few. There's even an album coming out with Game of Thrones-inspired music, which will include some of the aforementioned artists as well as some newcomers and others who have had roles on the show as well.

In a new interview, Robert Plant explained why he turned down the chance to appear on Game of Thrones. When asked if he watches the show during any of his downtime, Plant revealed that he's never even seen the show, but did note that he had been invited to come down to the set for an undisclosed role. When pressed a little further, the Led Zeppelin front man had a half-serious answer. Plant explains.

"Yeah, well I don't want to be typecast (laughs). I started that sh*t off you know, go back to Immigrant Song and Led Zeppelin being part of a cultural exchange in Iceland... (To publicist) What (part) was it, do you know? I thought I got to ride a horse and go (makes angry sneering face). I hadn't got time to grow the beard really so, no, but I mean how silly."

Led Zeppelin released the iconic concert movie, The Song Remains the Same, in 1976. Mixed in with the live concert footage taken from a 1973 performance at Madison Square Garden were fantasy sequences that each of the band members filmed on their own. Robert Plant's sequence was a lot like Game of Thrones and featured him on a horse as a knight searching for his fair maiden. The sequence ends with a pretty funny sword fight. So, Plant has pretty much already been there and done that, way before Game of Thrones started up.

There are plenty of reasons as to why D.B. Weiss and David Benioff would want Robert Plant on Game of Thrones. The first being that he's rock and roll royalty. It doesn't really get much bigger than Led Zeppelin when it comes to the mightiest bands on the planet. Also, he has the look. Plant wouldn't have to sit in a chair to get his hair and makeup done, he's already there with his golden/gray hair and full gray beard. Plus, it's just a chance to get to meet a member of Led Zeppelin.

Game of Thrones is currently filming its 8th and final season and appears to be approaching completion. However, it's still going to be a while before anyone gets to see anything. Though no release date has been announced by HBO, it's believed that we'll get Season 8 sometime in 2019. Fans are obviously hoping for an earlier release, but it looks like everybody is taking their time in order to get the final season to be the best that it can possibly be. Unfortunately, it will not include any members from Led Zeppelin. You can check out the video of the interview below, provided by The Strombo Show's YouTube channel. The Game of Thrones question shows up at the 16:30 mark.
