We haven't seen the last of Kiernan Shipka as Sabrina after all. After the series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina wrapped up its run on Netflix last year, it really looked as if Shipka would be done with playing the titular witch. There had been rumors prior to its cancelation that Sabrina would have a crossover event with Riverdale at some point, but the moment didn't materialize.

That is now changing, as it's just been reported that Shipka will officially reprise the role of Sabrina for an appearance on Riverdale. The reveal was first dropped by writer Evan Kyle and has since been confirmed by showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. As Aguirre-Sacasa explains in a statement given to Entertainment Weekly, everyone on the Riverdale set is just as excited for this as the fans will certainly be.

"We've been talking about having Sabrina visit Riverdale since season 1, so it's thrilling that this is finally happening, as part of our Rivervale special event," Aguirre-Sacasa said. "It's also perfect that she shows up to help Cheryl Blossom during her hour of greatest need. Everyone on set lost their minds - I think fans will, too. It's really fun and special."

Sabrina will appear in season 6, episode 4, which is titled "The Witching Hour(s)." In the episode, "Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) is performing a dangerous spell, one that may mean the difference between life and death for a beloved member of the Blossom family. Luckily, she's getting a much needed assist from everybody's favorite twenty-something witch, the iconic Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka), visiting from Greendale in this years-in-the-making crossover."

Shipka herself has also addressed the big news. She posted an image on Instagram of herself in her chair on the set of Riverdale, giving us our first look at Sabrina's return. In the caption, the actress said, "From Greendale to Riverdale. See u in Season 6."

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa also developed Chilling Adventures of Sabrina for Netflix. The show was originally planned to air on The CW to directly tie into Riverdale before its move to the streaming service, and further complicating the potential crossover. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina ultimately aired for just two seasons broken up into two halves each between 2018 and 2020. It was a popular series and many fans were shocked when it was revealed that Netflix would be putting it to an end.

In July, it was reported that Chilling Adventures of Sabrina would be continuing its story, just no longer as a live-action TV series on Netflix. The comic book series The Occult World of Sabrina is set in the same universe and picks up from where the show left off. Aguirre-Sacasa said of the comic, "We'll see how her loved ones have been doing since Sabrina sacrificed herself. The first thing Zelda does is recruit a team of their family and friends to go into the underworld to bring Sabrina back to life."

This isn't the first Sabrina-related crossover, as two stars from Sabrina the Teenage Witchappeared in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. It remains to be seen if there are any additional plans for Kiernan Shipka to play Sabrina after this upcoming Riverdale crossover episode. Some fans are still holding out hope for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina to be revived as well. This news comes to us from Entertainment Weekly.
