Following yesterday's news that Molly Ringwald has signed on for a recurring role as Archie Andrews' (KJ Apa) mother, The CW has released a new poster and photos from Riverdale. The poster features Archie Andrews at a local diner, seated with Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) and Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart). Outside the diner we also see Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) and Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch). If the poster wasn't enough, we also have photos that feature Marisol Nichols as Veronica's mother Hermione, Josie in action as part of her band Josie and the Pussycats, and Luke Perry as Archie's father, Fred Andrews.

While this series is based on the iconic Archie Comics and its characters, Riverdale presents them in a much different way. This season starts with a new school year beginning, with the town still reeling from the death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom, the twin brother of Cheryl Blossom. This mysterious death will cast a pall over this sleepy town, with the new poster, courtesy of The CW Network, revealing that Riverdale is "a great place to get away with it all." But who killed Jason Blossom? Is it one of the characters in this poster? We'll find out when this new series debuts January 27 on The CW.

Archie Andrews is still the all-American teen, but the summer's events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music - not follow in his dad's footsteps-despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with Riverdale's young music teacher, Ms. Grundy. Which means Archie doesn't have anyone who will mentor him - certainly not singer Josie McCoy, who is only focused on her band, the soon-to-be-world-famous Pussycats. It's all weighing heavily on Archie's mind - as is his fractured friendship with budding writer and fellow classmate Jughead Jones.

Meanwhile, girl-next-door Betty Cooper is anxious to see her crush Archie after being away all summer, but she's not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And Betty's nerves - which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother Alice aren't the only thing holding her back. When a new student, Veronica Lodge, arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione, there's an undeniable spark between her and Archie, even though Veronica doesn't want to risk her new friendship with Betty by making a play for Archie. And then there's Cheryl Blossom... Riverdale's Queen Bee is happy to stir up trouble amongst Archie, Betty, and Veronica, but Cheryl is keeping secrets of her own. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason? Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows.

The Riverdale cast also includes Sarah Habel as Ms. Grundy, Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle, Casey Cott as Kevin Keller, Mädchen Amick as Alice Cooper, Marisol Nichols as Hermione Lodge, Shannon Purser as Ethel Muggs and Robin Givens as Mayor Sierra McCoy. Riverdale will debut Thursday, January 26 at 9 PM ET, following the mid-season premiere of Supernatural, which moves to the Thursday 8 PM ET time slot. This schedule shift pushes the network's superhero series DC's Legends of Tomorrow to Tuesday nights at 9 PM ET, following The Flash at 8 PM ET. It remains to be seen if this new strategy will pay off for The CW, but we'll have to wait and see how Riverdale fares in its debut. Take a look at the new poster and photos for Riverdale below.
