With Netflix's new series The Punisher currently streaming, fans may be asking themselves one important question: How far does the conspiracy go? Netflix has unveiled a four-minute behind the scenes preview with the cast and crew of Marvel's The Punisher as they explain the setting and motivations of each main character on this Netflix series. Here's what Jon Bernthal had to say about how his iconic character Frank Castle was introduced in Daredevil, and how that lead into this series.
"The way that Frank Castle was introduced in the Daredevil story, he was very much reeling from personal trauma. I'm enormously grateful that I have the opportunity to go deeper into the story."
The preview also features executive producer/showrunner Steve Lightfoot, who adds that this story is "outside The Defenders timeline, and the show is unique to all of the Marvel Netflix shows because it stands on its own. He also adds how this series reveals that there is a whole other level to the conspiracy behind his family's death, with Jon Bernthal adding that, because of the type of fighting he did in Afghanistan during the war, Frank Castle may have brought on all of this pain himself. The video also adds more details about some of the supporting characters as well, starting with Micro.
Ebon-Moss Bachrach reveals his character Micro, when fans first meet him in The Punisher pilot, is a deeply paranoid man who has spent months upon months searching for Frank Castle, "because he believes they have a common enemies." Jon Bernthal adds that Micro and Frank have so much in common because their despair is caused by the loss of their families. The preview also features Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madini, who wants to find out who Frank Castle really is, while Ben Barnes discusses his character Billy Russo, Frank Castle's former comrade-in-arms who has started his own military contractor company called Anvil.
Ben Barnes adds that if anything would be worth anything to Russo it would be his "friendship with Frank," but it's not, because nothing is valuable to Russo except his own self-interests. While we don't see them in this preview, The Punisher cast also includes Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Michael Nathanson as Sam Stein, Jaime Ray Newman as Sarah Lieberman, Jason R Moore as Curtis Hoyle, Daniel Webber as Lewis Walcott and Paul Schulze as Rawlins. The series is executive produced by showrunner Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal), Jim Chory (Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage) and Jeph Loeb (Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage) who also serves as Marvel's Head of Television. Marvel's The Punisher is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix. Take a look at this extended behind-the-scenes video, courtesy of Netflix.
