After more than a month of negotiations, Dominic Cooper has finally been confirmed to play Jesse Custer on AMC's upcoming series Preacher. Executive producer Seth Rogen confirmed the news on his Twitter page earlier this morning. The actor most recently starred in a recurring role on ABC's Marvel's Agent Carter as Howard Stark, but it isn't known if that show will be renewed for a second season.

The show is based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's comic book of the same name, following a Texas preacher named Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper). He somehow merges with a creature who has escaped from heaven, and goes on a journey to literally find God, who has abandoned his place in Heaven. Jesse is joined on this journey by his ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun). Other confirmed cast members include Lucy Griffiths as Emily and Ian Colletti as Eugene Root, aka Arseface.

Sam Catlin wrote the pilot episode, which will be directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The writer and directors will also serve as executive producers alongside James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Vivian Cannon, Ori Marmur, Ken F. Levin and Jason Netter. It isn't known when production on the pilot episode may begin at this time, or how many other main roles still need to be cast. Aside from his role on Marvel's Agent Carter, Dominic Cooper recently starred in Dracula Untold on the big screen, and he will next be seen in Warcraft next year.
