Comic book adaptations are abundant on both the big and small screen these days. AMC has arguably the biggest of these adaptations with The Walking Dead, but that isn't the only comic book adaptation they have in their lineup, because Preacher is coming back for a second season. AMC is continuing with their adaptation of the Vertigo comic and Preacher Season 2 is officially in production.

Star Dominic Cooper took to his personal Twitter account to declare that production on Preacher season 2 is officially underway. Based on the Tweet, it looks like the production is taking place in Mandeville, Louisiana and it also looks like Preacher season 2 isn't going to be shy about stepping up the violence. Granted, the first season of Preacher was also quite violent. Dominic Cooper's tweet was captioned simply with "season 2 begins," a statement that was accompanied by what looks to be some human intestines laying out on the road.

The first season of Preacher essentially served as a prequel to the source material in the original comic books. The Preacher season 1 finale pretty much left the show in a place where season 2 can pick up right at the start of the actual comic books, which is something fans are eager to see. The series was written and developed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who are serving as executive producers for the show's second season. Garth Ennis, who co-created the original Preacher comic, is also a producer on the series. Unfortunately, co-creator Steve Dillon passed away recently, so he won't be able to put his stamp on these upcoming episodes. Sam Catlin serves as the showrunner for the series.

Preacher is based on the popular cult comic book franchise of the same name. The story is a supernatural and very dark comedic drama that follows a Texas preacher named Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) who is inhabited by a mysterious entity called Genesis that gives him the power to make people do whatever he commands. Preacher, as a comic, is highly influential and is one of the most popular series in the history of Vertigo, which is an imprint of DC Comics.

Few details for Preacher season 2 have been made available, but we do know that there will be 13 episodes and that the first episode will be titled "On the Road." The series stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy, Ruth Negga as Tulip, Lucy Griffiths as Emily, W. Earl Brown as Sheriff Root, Anatol Yusef as DeBlanc, Tom Brooke as Fiore, Derek Wilson as Donnie Schenck and Ian Colletti as Eugene/Arseface. There is no premiere date for Preacher season 2 yet, but we will be sure to keep you up to date as more details become available.
