Tenacious D is coming back in a big way this fall. The greatest band in the world is releasing a brand new web series and album, both titled Post-Apocalypto. The web series, set to premiere on YouTube, will consist of six episodes in total and will all feature new songs from the upcoming album. The band has released a teaser for the web series as well, which is done in the same style as a recent tour announcement video Tenacious D released earlier this year.

The teaser is reminiscent of a sketch from one of the Tenacious D's albums, which should make longtime fans quite happy. Only it's accompanied by some delightfully crude artwork. The video features Kyle Gass and Jack Black emerging from a refrigerator to find that the Earth has been destroyed and is now a post-apocalyptic wasteland. This is a pretty clear reference to the much-hated moment from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. KG and JB then look on in horror, with a little bit of slapstick dialogue, as they try to wrap their heads around what has happened.

In Post-Apocalypto, Tenacious D will save the world from new forms of evil that have emerged in the wake of the nuclear fallout. The duo of Gass and Black will visit the White House, take a trip in a time machine and go on a space adventure in the new series. Jack Black actually drew every single frame of the new series by hand, which is why everything looks so crude and why there isn't a ton of motion.

This comes after Tenacious D announced plans for a new movie, many of which assumed would be something along the lines of The Pick of Destiny 2, back in May. At the time, they didn't make it clear what platform the new movie would debut on, but they said that it would be coming our way this fall and would tie into their new album. With Post-Apocalypto debuting on September 28, it seems highly likely that this new movie many were hoping to see has evolved into the web series we have coming our way.

This is the first new music that Tenacious D has released since their 2012 album Rize of the Fenix. This will be the first time the duo has released anything beyond a music video on a small screen format since their HBO series, which aired from 1997 to 2000. It's a good time to be a fan of the D.

As for the new album, we'll be hearing some of the songs in each episode of the web series prior to its release. The full album will drop on November 2 and Tenacious D is pulling out all the stops. Fans can purchase the album digitally, on CD, translucent green vinyl and as a limited edition vinyl picture disc. They also have merch, such as hats and shirts, available in various pre-order packages. Pre-orders are available now over at the official Post Apocalypto website.
