There's an end insight for this Droughtlander once again because Starz has finally announced the season 5 premiere date for its time-traveling romance series. Outlander is set to premiere its fifth season on Sunday, February 16, 2020. At which point, the series will have been off the air for over a year.

The premium cable network also announced that the official Outlander panel will take place at New York Comic Con 2019 in The Hulu Theatre at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 5:30. Fans hope to get some insight into where their favorite thieving highlanders and time traveling doctors are headed with a star-studded panel. Ginger Zee, chief meteorologist on ABC's Good Morning America will moderate the discussion with stars Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser) and Sam Heughan (Jamie). Joining them this year are some new faces to the convention trail: Duncan LaCroix (Murtagh), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Jocasta) and David Berry (Lord John Grey). The author of the book series on which the series is based, Diana Gabaldon, is also set to make an appearance.

The Starz series has seen four highly-rated seasons following an English combat nurse from 1945 that accidentally falls back in time to the 18th century Scottish Highlands where not only are the British the villains, but one is the spitting image of her 20th century husband. The period fantasy drama has pulled in a handful of Golden Globe nominations for its cast, including four consecutive nominations for model turned actress Balfe, as well as a few Primetime Emmy nominations for its production design and costumes.

Outlander is based on a series of long novels of the same name. The Outlander book series currently has 8 installments, with a ninth on the way, along with a sub-series of novels following Lord John Gray. The show has continued to diverge a bit, as it must when some of the source material pushes 1,000 paperback pages, but the soul of the series has remained in tact, with very little fan backlash.

The upcoming season has a lot to live up to with a growing cast and era-hopping drama. Season five picks up with the Frasers, daughter-from-the-future included, on Fraser's Ridge in the American Colonies. Jamie (Heughan) must find a way to defend the life he and Claire have created from his past and the deals he's made. In order to protect his family, he must make a decision regarding his orders from Governor William Tryon to kill his godfather and closest friend Murtagh Fitzgibbons. As usual, while her husband tries to navigate 18th century politics, Claire uses her modern medical and historical knowledge to protect those closest to her.

Season five is currently in production in Scotland. The series is helmed by its creator Ronald D. Moore (Helix, Battlestar Galactica) and is produced by Tall Ship Productions and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television. This news comes to us from Deadline.
