The characters that fans have fallen in love with from author Diana Gabaldon's novels will finally come to life on the small screen when Outlander debuts with the Season 1 premiere "Sassenach" on Saturday, August 9 at 9 PM ET only on Starz.

For those who are unfamiliar with the books, the story follows a World War II nurse named Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), who is inexplicably sent back in time more than 200 years to 1743 Scotland, where she is drawn to a young warrior named Jamie Faser (Sam Heughan).

I recently had the chance to speak with both Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe about the casting process, shooting the series on location in Scotland, Diana Gabaldon's involvement as a consultant on the show, working with series creator Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica) and much more. Take a look at our exclusive interview with the stars of Outlander before it premieres this weekend on Staz.

Outlander spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one epic tale. It follows the story of Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married combat nurse from 1945, who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743. Upon her arrival, she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate relationship is ignited and Claire's heart is torn between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Outlander premieres Saturday, August 9 at 9:00 pm ET/PT exclusively on Starz and is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Company and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television.
