Patrick Fugit has signed on for the lead role in Cinemax's new TV series Outcast, based on the comic book by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.

The story centers on Kyle Barnes (Patrick Fugit), a young man who has been possessed by a demon since he was a young child. He sets off on a journey to learn why this demon resides within him, while uncovering something that could end all life as we know it. Joining Patrick Fugit in the cast is British actor Philip Glenister, who plays Reverend Anderson, a hard-drinking West Virginia preacher who believes he's a soldier in God's war against evil. Gabriel Bateman is also starring as eight-year-old Joshua Astin, who is also possessed by a demon and has a strange connection to Kyle.

Feature filmmaker Adam Wingard (The Guest) has been set to direct the pilot episode from Robert Kirkman's script, which was written on spec and developed by Fox International Channels. Cinemax picked up Outcast and gave the series a green light back in July. Robert Kirkman is executive producing alongside Chris Black, David Alpert, Sharon Tal Yguado and Sue Naegle.

Patrick Fugit currently stars in director David Fincher's Gone Girl.
