The 75th annual Golden Globes ceremony was far different than any that had come before, mostly due to the fact that the sexual misconduct allegations that rocked Hollywood late last year are still hanging over the industry like a black cloud. The event led to impassioned speeches from actresses all night, but only one woman earned multiple standing ovations that brought the crowd to tears. Oprah Winfrey was honored as the first black woman to receive the Cecil B. DeMille award during Sunday's ceremony and though she was addressing a room full of her peers, she might as well have been announcing a 2020 presidential campaign to the world. The fiery speech immediately brought up rumors of the possibility of a President Winfrey.

During her acceptance speech, Oprah Winfrey recalled sitting on the floor in her childhood home watching Sidney Poitier become the first black person to win an Academy Award and later reminded herself that little girls were probably sitting at home watching her accept a prestigious award for the first time as well. But the main theme of the speech was the Me Too movement, telling everybody that a "new day is on the horizon," which elicited a standing ovation for the articulate and heartfelt words that touched on women in Hollywood all the way to the importance of the media. She had this to say.

"I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon. And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say 'Me too' again."

Oprah Winfrey has publically declared that she was not thinking of running for president of the United States in 2020, but some people that are very close to the media mogul have stated otherwise since last night's speech. Winfrey's partner, Stedman Graham said, "It's up to the people. She would absolutely do it." Two of Oprah Winfrey's closest friends spoke to CNN anonymously to say that Winfrey is actively thinking about running, which was evidenced by her impassioned call for change at the Golden Globes.

Though her friends say that she is actively thinking about running for president, they also say that Oprah Winfrey has not yet made up her mind. Many liberal-leaning celebrities and viewers watching her speech at the Golden Globes certainly heard it that way. And that may have been exactly what Winfrey wanted. As some political strategists have pointed out in the past year, Oprah Winfrey's fame and wealth could make her a formidable Democratic Party candidate. However, it is also a question of whether America would vote for another TV star to run the country.

Everything is up in the air as of this moment, but Oprah Winfrey sure looked presidential during the 75th Golden Globes ceremony. In the past, Winfrey campaigned for Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton, noting that a female president would make for a "seminal moment for women." That obviously didn't happen, but maybe Oprah Winfrey can be that seminal moment for women in 2020.
