Season 6 of Once Upon a Time is set to wrap up this Sunday, with Jennifer Morrison announcing today that she will not return for season 7. ABC's Once Upon a Time has been a great success for the network, becoming the number one non-sports program in the United States with viewers on Sunday evenings. The show has had continued success with mixed reviews from critics. Jennifer Morrison, who plays Emma Swan on the show, has been in negotiations since March to see if she would return to Once Upon a Time for a seventh season, and fans of the show were confident that she would reprise her role. They were wrong.

As of this morning, it is uncertain if Once Upon a Time will return for a seventh season after Morrison took to her Instagram page to announce that she would not be returning to the show. Read her announcement below.

"After very careful consideration, I have decided that creatively and personally, it is time for me to move on."

Morrison goes on to say that Emma Swan has been one of her favorite roles of her career. She states the following.

"Emma Swan is one of my favorite characters that I have ever played. My six years on Once Upon a Time has changed my life in the most beautiful ways. I am absolutely blown away by the passion and commitment of the Oncer fans. I am so honoured to have been a central part of such a special show."

While she is done with the show, Morrison did say that she would return for one episode of season 7, if there ends up being a season 7 at all.

Last night was the musical episode of Once Upon a Time and was Swan and Hook's wedding, which didn't help the sting that fans felt this morning after receiving the news. Costars Lana Parrilla (Regina), Robert Carlyle (Mr. Gold), and Colin O'Donoghue (Captain Hook) are all reported to be negotiating their personal contracts right now as well. It has been rumored that Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow White) and Josh Dallas (Prince Charming) will be following in Morrison's footsteps, which could mean the end of Once Upon a Time as fans know it.

Once Upon a Time first premiered in October of 2011 and follows the lives of characters from various fairytales that have been transported to a fictional town in Storybrooke, Maine. The characters are living in the "real world" and have had their memories stolen from them by a powerful curse. Morrison's character, Emma protects the fictional town form villains that travel from other realms. The ratings have started to decline recently and now it's not certain if the show will return at all.

This is a developing story and more news is expected to drop soon. It has been rumored that season 7 could be a reboot of the series, but official specific details are not available at this time. The end of season 6 arrives this Sunday on ABC and we'll just have to wait and see what happens with Once Upon a Time. Read Morrison's full statement below.
