Ewan McGregor is allegedly rumored to have signed a deal with Lucasfilm to star in and direct the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series. There have been rumors surrounding the actor's return to the iconic role for the past few years, including a role in the often-talked about sidelined movie. However, McGregor has denied any of the reports stating he was coming back to the big screen as Obi-Wan. It looks like things may have changed with a new Disney+ live-action Star Wars series reportedly in the works centered on the Jedi Master.

Ewan McGregor has "actually put pen to paper and inked a contract to return as the iconic Jedi Master," according to one source. It is believed that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will consist of eight episodes and McGregor will direct some of them. It's important to note this information has not been officially confirmed by anyone at Lucasfilm or by McGregor. With that being said, we could see an official announcement at the D23 Expo next weekend, if Disney and Lucasfilm are ready to announce the possible new series starring McGregor.

When recently asked about returning for the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, Ewan McGregor simply said, "There's no plans, as such, to do it, as far as I know." The movie had been in development for quite some time, but was later scrapped after Solo: A Star Wars Story underperformed at the box office, causing Disney to rethink its release schedule for the franchise. The movie, along with the Boba Fett spin-off were put to the side. With the announcement of The Mandalorian and Rogue One Prequel live-action shows on Disney+, many fans were hopeful that McGregor could return in that capacity too.

Rumors about the Obi-Wan Disney+ series started swirling earlier this year. Like the movie, the series is rumored to take place after the events of Revenge of the Sith and prior to the events of A New Hope during Kenobi's years on Tatooine watching over Luke Skywalker. This would presumably give eight hours to tell the story as opposed to a 2-hour movie, giving a lot more insight into what the Jedi Master was up to on Tatooine.

Though Ewan McGregor has denied any involvement with Lucasfilm over the years, the actor has expressed a desire to return. Now seems like the perfect time to the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series a reality, especially with D23 just around the corner. Again, this is very much an unconfirmed rumor at this time. We have heard for years that McGregor is going to return to play Old Ben Kenobi, but nothing has ever come of it. But, if Disney and Lucasfilm end up confirming the live-action series, fans will undoubtedly lose their minds. For now, we'll just have to wait and see.
