Danny Cannon has been hired to direct and executive produce Fox's pilot for the upcoming DC comic TV series Gotham.

The series will follow the relationship between Commissioner James Gordon and a young Bruce Wayne. Viewers will also see the origin stories behind the villains who made Gotham City famous. In this timeline, Gordon is a detective with the Gotham City Police Department and has not yet met 'The Batman', though unknowingly helping to set the vigilante on his path. The Dark Knight will not be part of the project.

The character of Commissioner James Gordon was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane.

Danny Cannon has many TV pilots under his belt including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Nikita, and The Tomorrow People. He also directed the original Judge Dredd back in 1995.
