While not nearly as big as San Diego Comic-Con, The Chicago Wizard World Comic Con does respectable enough business and is known for pulling in some stellar talent. The convention has continued on throughout the weekend, where some choice rumors have flown forth. Among the many celebrity guests were Arrow star Stephen Amell, Star Trek legend William Shatner, and Firefly captain Nathan Fillion, just to name a few. And while you'll be hearing some more interesting news coming forth in the hours and days ahead, as journalists pick through their short interviews for news worthy tidbits, one of the coolest moments came when Nathan Fillion revealed which DC Comics superhero he desperately wants to play. And it sounds like a perfect fit.

It seems like everyone in Hollywood is lobbying for a superhero gig nowadays. From Ronda Rousey pimping fan art of herself in Captain Marvel's iconic costume, to Tyrese Gibson all but convincing himself that he really is starring in Green Lantern Corps. (neither are signed at the moment). Big budget Marvel and DC movies are getting all the attention, and so are the number of stars who go out of their way to clamor for any obscure character they can land. And the guy Nathan Fillion wants to play is pretty obscure, at least to mainstream audiences.

While holding down a panel at Chicago Wizard World Comic Con, an audience member stood up and asked Nathan Fillion the go to question for celebrities here in the late teens. 'If you could play any hero from the DC or Marvel Universe, who would it be?' Knowing that this question is inevitably coming, all actors worth their iodine free sea salt already have their answer planned out well in advanced. Nathan Fillion was not the exception, as he rattled off his answer in machine gun fashion, with ComicBook.com there to capture his quote in full.

"I think I could take a pretty good crack at Booster Gold. That's kind of my niche: show-offy, vain... I think I could handle that. Not too bright. I think Ambush Bug - you like that? A little bit off his rocker, you'd never see my face. But I think Greatest American Hero is due for a reboot."

Interesting. He would most like to play Booster Gold, but he's also a fan of Ambush Bug and Greatest American Hero. These are all characters that we'd like to see Nathan Fillion play. The Greatest American Hero reboot is already being planned by the directors of The Lego Movie. It will be an hour-long superhero drama, which may count Nathan Fillion out of the running, as he's still going strong on ABC's Castle. Though, some speculate that Castle Season 8 will bring that show to a close.

There are no talks at DC to bring Booster Gold to the big screen any time soon. The character has flown under the radar, though he has appeared on such animated shows as Justice League Unlimited, Batman: The Brave and The Bold and Legion of Super-Heroes. Created by comic book legend Dan Jergens, the character, whose real name is Michael Jon Carter, was first introduced in 25th Century Gotham City, but later moved to 20th century Metropolis. He is a career superhero who holds down movie deals and endorsement contracts. His one live-action appearance to date came on an episode of Smallville. At one point, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, the power team behind Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl, were putting together a Booster Gold series for Syfy. That, as I'm sure you know, didn't end up moving forward.

If Castle does call it closed after this season, it's possible that Nathan Fillion will appear on a superhero series sometime in the future. It's not even beyond the realm of possibility to see him show up as Booster Gold on Arrow or The Flash. The character fits well with his beloved persona. But does he have what it takes to be a superhero on the big screen? Who knows! But we're sure to see him play another superhero at some point, after having voiced several animated DC Comics projects and originating the superhero The Holy Avenger in 2011's Super.
