Reid Ewing is perhaps best known for his role as Haley's on-again, off-again doofus boyfriend Dylan on ABC's hit comedy Modern Family. The actor has recently shared his struggles with Body dysmorphic disorder, and how it led to a plastic surgery nightmare. He expresses regret and anger over some of the work he has had done, as he has gone under the knife multiple times.

The actor had his first, of what he calls many, cosmetic-surgery procedures at age 19. He is now 27, and looking back, he realizes that it was his mind, not his body, that needed work. Speaking with The Huffington Post, he exposed his secret battle with his mental illness. He had this to say.

"Body dysmorphic disorder is a mental illness in which a person obsesses over the way he or she looks. In my case, my looks were the only thing that mattered to me. I had just moved to L.A. to become an actor and had very few, if any, friends. I'd sit alone in my apartment and take pictures of myself from every angle, analyzing every feature."

Reid Ewing first appeared on Modern Family in 2009. Since then, he has returned for 29 episodes. And he has had a running arc in Modern Family Season 7, appearing in the most current episodes. He also attends college in Utah. Before he landed the role, back in 2008, he came to the conclusion that plastic surgery was something he absolutely had to do. His first visit with a doctor resulted in cheek implants, which the surgeon insisted was a 'must-have' operation. The actor does not have fond memories of the experience.

He says he was not prepared for the post-op pain. And he didn't realize how he would look immediately following the procedure. But the cosmetic restructuring caused a domino effect. Soon, he was back on the operating table, undergoing a chin implant. He would later go back to have some of his implants removed. And he found himself constantly injecting himself with fillers and fat transplants. Some of these operations were ongoing while he was shooting episodes of Modern Family. His earned wages from the show actually allowed him to keep going back, as many times as he felt necessary. He goes onto explain that at least one of the procedures was horribly botched.

"I noticed I could move the chin implant under my skin, easily moving it from one side of my face to another. I rushed back to the surgeon, and, acknowledging he had made a mistake, he operated on me again."

Over the years, Reid Ewing went under the knife of four separate doctors. None of these surgeons ever screened for mental health issues. Though, some of them did ask about depression issues, which he claims he was suffering at the time. He notes that his family has had a long history of obsessive-compulsive disorder and eating disorders, but that never came up when talking to his parents.

The actor notes now that his problem was psychological and not cosmetic. His one wish is that he could go back in time to 2009, and stop the first surgery from ever happening. If he could, he would undo all of the procedures. He admits now that there was never anything wrong with his looks. And claims that he never needed any of the surgeries.
