Millie Bobby Brown has deleted her Twitter account. The Stranger Things star has had a somewhat meteoric rise to fame, thanks to her role as Eleven on the wildly popular and critically-acclaimed Netflix series. However, the actress has now decided to delete her Twitter account after various users on the social networking site began turning pictures of her into homophobic and even violent memes. Brown is an outspoken supporter of GLADD and the LGBTQ community.

Given that these memes run so counter to her beliefs, Millie Bobby Brown decided to delete her account entirely. Those who made the memes were generally taking photos of the 14-year-old actress and adding captions with homophobic statements or slurs. Many of the posts included the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown. The reason behind the creation of these memes in the first place remains somewhat mysterious, but several Twitter users claimed that they were made by members of the LGBTQ community and were intended to be an inside joke. Here's an example of a since-deleted tweet.

"People getting mad over the millie bobby brown homophobic meme makes me giggle most of these memes were made by the gays so don't worry, susan!"

Other users and those who participated in creating these memes claimed to have met the actress and, with seemingly no evidence, accused her of being violent toward LGBTQ fans. Prior to deactivating her account, Brown was very active on social media. She would often post updates regarding her personal life, projects she was working on or political statements. Showcasing her support for the LGBTQ community via social media was common. Brown also has an anti-bullying account, @Milliestopshate, that remains active. While the account is active, nothing has been posted to it since December 12, 2017.

This is far from the first time that similarly hateful activity has forced a star to remove themselves from social media. SNL cast member Leslie Jones deleted her Twitter account in 2016 as a result of racist memes. The Star Wars fanbase has been particularly toxic. Daisy Ridley deleted her Instagram account after a tidal wave of backlash following an anti-gun post in 2016. Most recently, The Last Jedi star Kelly Marie Tran erased everything on her Instagram profile after being harassed by those who were unhappy with the character of Rose and the actress in general.

Despite no longer being active on Twitter, Millie Bobby Brown isn't going anywhere, any time soon. She's got Stranger Things season 3 coming up and she's also got her first major movie role in next year's Godzilla 2. She's also been tapped to star in an Enola Holmes series. Brown has asserted herself as a young talent to watch and, despite the actions of some that caused her to walk away from Social Media, she's still going to be a force to reckon with in Hollywood for years to come.
