The Shield star Michael Chiklis is returning to FX by joining the cast of American Horror Story: Freak Show. Series creator Ryan Murphy announced the news during the show's PaleyFest panel over the weekend.

The actor will portray the ex-husband of Kathy Bates' character and the father of Evan Peters' character. We reported earlier this week that this season will revolve around a carnival in the early 1950s, set in Jupiter, Florida. Jessica Lange is returning for her final season, with Ryan Murphy revealing in January that the actress is practicing her German accent to portray this new character. This new report from Variety reveals that the actress is playing a German expatriate who runs this circus.

Michael Chiklis himself was in attendance at the PaleyFest panel, where he sent out the following tweet with his new co-star Evan Peters.

The actor helped put the fledgling FX Network on the map with the critically-acclaimed drama series The Shield, which ran for seven seasons between 2002 and 2008. He most recently starred in features Parker and Pawn, along with the upcoming When the Game Stands Tall, in theaters this August.
