Actress Mía Maestro, who played Carmen in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, has landed the female lead role in the FX pilot The Strain.

We reported last month that House of Cards star Corey Stoll landed the male lead of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Centers for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. Mía Maestro will play Dr. Nora Martinez, who works closely with Dr. Goodweather and has struck up an affair with him. Goodweather and Martinez are tasked with investigating a viral outbreak that appears to be an ancient strain which turns people into vampires, and is spreading rapidly throughout the city.

Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan are co-writing the pilot script, with Guillermo del Toro attached to direct the first episode. Carlton Cuse (Bates Motel) is executive producing alongside Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan, and Gary Ungar. No production schedule was given.

Mía Maestro recently starred in Savages and the upcoming indies Some Girl(s) and 1st Night. On the small screen, she previously starred as Nadia Santos on Alias, and recently had guest-starring turns on White Collar and Person of Interest.
