Production is under way on FX's highly-anticipated Sons of Anarchy spin-off entitled Mayans MC, and it didn't take long for the first set photos to surface. Series creator/executive producer Kurt Sutter took to social media to unveil these images, which reveal Emilio Rivera reprising his role as Mayans president Marcus Alvarez, who is presiding over a meeting. The image also features Raymond Cruz, who just joined the pilot as Che "Padre" Romero. If the show gets picked up to series, he will recur on the drama.

The second photo, which surfaced on Kurt Sutter's Instagram page yesterday, only features a few actors wearing their full Mayans costumes. The series creator and showrunner has been sharing images from the set since production started a few weeks ago, which confirmed long-standing rumors that Emilio Rivera will in fact return as Marcus Alvarez. We also have our first look at JD Pardo as the series lead EZ Reyes. It remains to be seen how much longer filming will be under way for, but we'll likely find out next month during FX's upfront presentation whether or not it will get a series order.

Edward James Olmos also stars as EZ Reyes' father Felipe who tries to set his son on a lawful and righteous path. Clayton Cardenas will portray EZ's brother Angel Reyes, who is a "full patch member" of the Mayans MC Santo Padre chapter and is said to live with the burden of being the "lesser son" in his Mexican family. The cast also includes John Ortiz as Esai "Taino" Osorio, the president of the Mayans MC Santo Padre Charter, who is described as a "Mexi-Rican" who was born in the Bronx, before being sent to Oakland. There he lived with his cousin, Marcus Alvarez, founder and National President of Mayans MC.

The spin-off was first announced in August 2015, with Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter returning to executive producer and write the pilot episode with Elgin James. Now that Emilio Rivera's Marcus Alvarez character has been confirmed, it remains to be seen if any other Mayans characters from the flagship show Sons of Anarchy will be back. There had previously been rumors that the spin-off was actually a prequel, taking place before Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) from SOA was even born, but it has since been confirmed that the show take place in the aftermath of the Sons of Anarchy finale, when Jax Teller was killed. The cast also includes Sarah Bolger as the female lead Emily, the "childhood sweetheart" of EZ Reyes.

Kurt Sutter is executive producing Mayans MC with Elgin James, who he co-wrote the pilot script with. Kurt Sutter is also set to direct the Sons of Anarchy spin-off's pilot episode. If the show gets a series order, it seems likely that it will debut sometime this fall on FX, but it's also possible that the show will be held for a mid-season debut on the cable network. While we wait for more on Mayans MC, take a look at the first set photos below.
