Mary Elizabeth Winstead has signed on to star in A&E's new drama series The Returned, with Sandrine Holt and Agnes Bruckner joining the cast in supporting roles.

We reported in April that A&E issued a 10-episode order for Season 1, which is based on the hit French TV series The Returned (Les Revenants). The story is set in a small town where several people who have long thought to be dead, mysteriously reappear, which brings both positive and negative consequences. As they begin to reunite with their families, bizarre phenomena begin to occur.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead is playing Rowan, the girlfriend of musician Simon (Mat Vairo) who disappeared 10 years ago and has now returned home. Sandrine Holt is playing the compassionate doctor Julie, who is struggling with issues in her personal life, while Agnes Bruckner portrays the sheriff's chief deputy.

Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) wrote the pilot script and will executive produce alongside Raelle Tucker, Thom Beers, Craig Cegielski and Stefanie Berk.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead most recently starred in The Spectacular Now and A.C.O.D., and she will next be seen in Kill the Messenger.
