Although the pilot wrapped production in February, Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. has added J. August Richards to the cast in a secretive role.

It isn't known if the pilot is undergoing additional shooting at this time. While it hasn't been announced yet, the project is being put on the fast track at ABC, and a series order seems likely. It is possible that the actor does not appear in the pilot, but will be featured in future episodes once a series order is confirmed.

The pilot stars Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Ming-Na as Agent Melinda May, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Gemma Simmons, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, and Chloe Bennet as Skye. The pilot will not feature any of the superheroes from creator Joss Whedon's blockbuster Marvel's The Avengers, but it will be set entirely within the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization.

Joss Whedon directed the pilot from a script he co-wrote with Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen.
