Following yesterday's report that Paul Rudd is in early talks to play Ant-Man, Marvel Studios confirmed that he has signed on to star.

Here's what producer and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had to say in a statement.

"When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star. We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we'd ever met with about doing the work, we knew we'd found the right guy. We couldn't be more excited for our audiences to see what he's going to do to bring Ant-Man to life."

No plot details have been released for Ant-Man, which will be Marvel's first Phase Three movie, arriving in theaters July 31, 2015.

Edgar Wright is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Cornish, based on the Marvel comic book series. It isn't known when production may begin. Marvel's remaining Phase Two slate includes Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014), Guardians of the Galaxy (August 1, 2014) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 1, 2015).
