All good things must come to an end. Such is the case with Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which will officially be concluding its run with season 7. Marvel and ABC had renewed the Marvel series ahead of the season 6 premiere, in a surprising move. But now, just ahead of the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the announcement has been made that Agent Coulson and the rest of the crew will be hanging it up for good next summer.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return with a final 13 episode season next summer, Marvel and ABC confirmed. Season 6 is currently ramping up to the end of its run, with the final few episodes still left to air as the cast and crew make their way to SDCC. Karey Burke, President of ABC Entertainment, had this to say in a statement.

"Agent Coulson is one of the most beloved cinematic heroes of our time, and we're so glad to have spent 7 seasons with him and the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as they saved the world from countless unimaginable big bads. I am so impressed with the eternally fresh, heart-pounding, and emotional stories the writers and creative team at Marvel Television brought to life that led S.H.I.E.L.D. to be the longest-running Marvel series to-date."

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will conclude its run as the longest-running Marvel series to date. Even the well-liked Marvel shows that were on Netflix, such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher and, to a lesser degree, Iron Fist, only made it two or three seasons. So the fact that this particular show managed to run for this long is truly an accomplishment. Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer on the series and Marvel's Head of Television, had this to add in a statement.

"It will be bittersweet saying goodbye to Marvel Television's flagship series. Our success is a true testament to the extraordinary fans and we remain forever indebted to them for their endless support. We want to end on a very high note and complete the incredible saga after seven amazing seasons and 136 hours of quality television."

Created by The Avengers director Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuted on ABC in 2013 as Marvel's first foray into live-action TV during the Marvel Cinematic Universe era. While the series has never done gangbusters in the ratings department, it's been a staple for hardcore fans. Though, it has been the number one show on Fridays this year in its time slot.

The cast includes Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Jeff Ward. We'll be sure to bring the probable trailer that arrives from SDCC your way as soon as it drops online. The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 finale is set for August 2 with a special two-hour episode.
