Jonah Hill was recently spotted on the set of his new Netflix series Maniac looking completely unrecognizable due to dramatic weight loss paired with a gain of long hair and tattoos. The actor recently gained weight for the 2016 movie War Dogs and has since slimmed down considerably, attributing some key dietary changes to his sudden and shocking apperance. In an interview with radio host Howard Stern, Hill admitted that he basically had the diet of a child, eating pizza, chips, and candy every day and not hitting the gym at all.

The new picture of Hill on the set of Maniac comes to us via People and it features the actor in a long-haired wig, sporting braids as well as tattoos and some bandages. Previous photos from the set showed Hill off in a mullet wig getting arrested at gunpoint. The look is a drastic change from the Jonah Hill that we've seen over the years and is a far cry from the nerdy high school look from 2007's Superbad. By the looks of the recent pictures from the set, it looks like there could be an episode that takes place in the 1980s.

Maniac is based off of a Norwegian series of the same name in which patients in a mental ward go in and out of fantasy worlds. The show also stars Emma Stone and will have a 10-episode run on Netflix, starting some time in 2018. Maniac follows Hill's character, an inpatient at a mental institution, who lives out adventures in his dreams. The dark comedy is directed by True Detective's Cary Fukunaga, and costars Stone as a fellow patient in the institution. If the pictures from the set offer any indication, the show will certainly look pretty damn weird.

When talking about his weight loss, Hill attributes the help from fellow actor Brad Pitt and Channing Tatum who gave the him advice on how to slim down. While on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Hill mentioned a conversation that he had with Tatum that jump started his desire to get into shape. Hill explains.

"I gained weight for this movie War Dogs, and then I wanted to get in better shape, so I called Channing Tatum, and said, 'Hey, if I ate less and go to a trainer, will I get in better shape?' And he said, 'Yes, you dumb mother$%@er, of course you will, it's the simplest thing in the entire world."

Hill also said that Japanese food has helped him on his journey as well as cutting out a staple of his diet: beer. Hill mentioned that it was easy to slim down once he stopped drinking beer.

Jonah Hill looks great after losing the weight, but these new pictures from the set make him look downright frightening. In other words, he looks perfect for the part that he plays in Maniac. There is not an official release date set for the series, but filming is supposed to end in November of this year with the show popping up on Netflix some time in 2018.
