Back in May, writer-director Kevin Smith revealed that he had finished the script for his sequel to Mallrats, entitled MallBrats, with most of the main cast from the original comedy already confirmed to return. That was the last update we had on the project, until today, when Kevin Smith announced that filming will begin in January 2016, at the Exton Square Mall in Exton, Pennsylvania. Here's what the filmmaker had to say on his official Facebook page.

"We found our MALL, y'all! This January, the @extonsquaremall in Exton, PA will star in ‪#‎Mallrats‬ 2! @jayandsilentbob are coming to Chester County! Big thanks to financiers StarStream, who found the mall & the money! They're making this ‪#‎MR2‬ dream come true!"

You may recall that, back in April, Kevin Smith revealed MallBrats would be his next movie, with production slated to begin in late 2015, as opposed to the original plan, where the sequel would shoot in early 2016. The filmmaker also said in April they had found a mall that was "going away" soon, which meant the production had to be moved up so they could shoot there before it went away. Now that production has been moved back to January 2016, it isn't known if the Exton Square Mall is the same mall he was referring to in that original report.

The confirmed cast members for MallBrats include Kevin Smith (Silent Bob), Jason Mewes (Jay), Jason Lee (Brodie), Stan Lee (Himself), Michael Rooker (Mr. Svenning), Shannen Doherty (Rene), Jeremy London (T.S.), Renée Humphrey (Trish), Joey Lauren Adams (Gwen), Sven-Ole Thorsen (LaFours), Ethan Suplee (William), Bryan Johnson (Steve Dave), Walter Flanagan (The Fanboy), Brian O'Halloran (Gil Hicks) and Scott Mosier (Roddy). It isn't known if Claire Forlani (Brandi Svenning) or Priscilla Barnes (the topless psychic Ivannah) will reprise their roles. Kevin Smith also hopes to have Ben Affleck join in just for a very small cameo, but he has never been confirmed to join the cast, due to his Batman commitments at Warner Bros. The director hasn't announced any new cast members yet, but now that a production schedule has been locked in, perhaps we'll be hearing about new additions to the cast soon.

The original 1995 comedy Mallrats centered on Brodie and his friend T.S., who were both dumped by their girlfriends on the same day. They both seek refuge at their local mall, where T.S. comes up with a plan to win his girlfriend back, which involves crashing a game show set to be filmed at the mall, run by her father (Michael Rooker). With all of the original characters back, 20 years later, it remains to be seen what kind of adventures these characters will get into. While we wait for more details, check out the photo Kevin Smith debuted on his Twitter page earlier today featuring the new home to MallBrats.
