The current circumstances have led to a whole host of reunions featuring the cast and crew from several beloved big and small screen projects. These have included the likes of Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and now, Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston has revealed that the cast of Malcolm in the Middle will join the reunion ranks.
"Here we are... all are stuck in this five months of quarantine! Can you imagine how Hal would have gone bonkers on #MalcolmintheMiddle if he had to stay inside with his five knuckle-headed boys?! Makes me smile to think about that. So, if you've been missing some silliness in your life, check us out this Saturday night 8/8 for a 20th anniversary celebration of the show's premiere. The cast is back!! This time we're reading the pilot episode on Zoom. The whole thing is the brain child of Linwood Boomer, our show's creator, to benefit his charity @HealingCalifornia, an amazing organization that provides FREE dental, medical, and vision care to those in need. There's also lots of great stuff from the show that could be yours. Bid now on @Charitybuzz, link in bio. @RWQuarantunes See you on Saturday!"
Bryan Cranston made the announcement via social media, declaring that the show's original cast of the much-loved sitcom will be reuniting on Zoom to read the pilot episode script. The reason for the exciting reunion is two-fold, marking the twentieth anniversary of the show, as well as raising money for the charity Healing California, which provides free dental, medical, and vision care to those in need in the state.
The virtual reunion will give fans the chance to donate to the charity, as well as win the chance to be involved in the reunion, by taking part in a fundraising auction, which will include autographed memorabilia from the show.
Malcolm in the Middle ran for seven seasons between 2000-2006 and has remained a firm favorite with fans ever since. Starring Frankie Muniz as the titular middle child, Malcolm in the Middle follows Malcolm, a somewhat normal teenager who tests at genius level, and his dysfunctional family. The family is made up of hot-headed, overbearing mother, Lois (Jane Kaczmarek), clumsy, immature, loving father, Hal (Bryan Cranston), and Malcolm's three brothers, Francis (Christopher Masterson), Reese (Justin Berfield), and Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan). When the show first started the focus was almost solely on Malcolm, but as it continued the rest of the family came more into their own, turning the series into more of an ensemble piece.
Over the years, Malcolm in the Middle received critical acclaim and won a Peabody Award, seven Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award, and seven Golden Globe nominations.
Bryan Cranston is, of course, now best recognised as Walter White, the intense lead character in the ground-breaking crime drama series Breaking Bad. But there was a time when he was known for his comedy stylings in Malcom in the Middle, and it should prove interesting to see him return to the role of Hal for the upcoming reunion. This comes to us courtesy of Bryan Cranston's official Instagram account.
