Marvel released a brief new video earlier today, which revealed that the studio and the Netflix streaming service have renewed their hit show Luke Cage for a second season. While the move was widely expected, the studio made it official today. The video did not reveal how many episodes the new season will be, or when the season may debut. If an earlier report is to be believed, though, we may not see the new season for a few years.

The Twitter video featured the Pop's Barber Shop, which featured a neon sign hanging on the wall that read "Season 2 Coming Soon." A report from earlier this year revealed that fans won't see new episodes of Daredevil or Jessica Jones, which have both been officially renewed, until after The Defenders mini-series. Marvel and Netflix haven't announced when The Defenders will air, but it is expected to debut late last year. The last of Marvel's four Netflix shows, Iron Fist, has been set to debut on March 17, 2017. Marvel hasn't announced when The Defenders or the new seasons of Daredevil and Jessica Jones will debut, but they most likely won't be released until 2018 or late.

Marvel's Luke Cage tells the story of Luke Cage (Mike Colter), a hoodie- wearing, unbreakable ex-con who fights to clear his name and save his neighborhood. After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city - forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury. Marvel's Luke Cage is rated TV-MA and is streaming now only on Netflix.

The supporting cast also includes Rosario Dawson, reprising her role as Claire Temple, a.k.a. Night Nurse, Mahershala Ali as Cottonmouth, Theo Rossi as Sonny, Alfre Woodard as Black Mariah, Simone Missick as Misty Knight and Sonia Braga as Claire Temple's mother. It's worth noting that, in the comics, both Luke Cage and Claire Temple were romantically linked, but we don't know if this story line will be followed in the second season.

Marvel's Luke Cage is Executive Produced by series Showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker (SouthLAnd, Ray Donovan), Charles Murray (Roots) and Jeph Loeb (Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones), who also serves as Marvel's Head of Television. Mike Colter's Luke Cage will return in The Defenders alongside Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones).
