The official trailer for Lucifer season 5B has been released. Ahead of the arrival of the next batch of episodes next month, the new trailer gives us a glimpse at what's to come in the next chapter of the Lucifer story. This includes the introduction of Dennis Haysbert as God, the almighty creator and father to Lucifer (Tom Ellis). You can watch the trailer below.

Bringing God Himself into Lucifer has been a long time coming, and a lot of thought went into casting Him for the Netflix series. Haysbert, a veteran actor and the official spokesman for Allstate insurance, was announced for the role last year. We can expect more of Haysbert working with Ellis in some important seasons, as co-showrunner Joe Henderson has teased some deep conversations between God and Lucifer in season 5B. He also suggests fans will be satisfied with Haysbert's performance.

"Let's just say that Lucifer and Dad are going to have a lot of conversations about where they've been, and that's the kind of thing they'll be talking about," Henderson said on the Word Balloon YouTube channel this month. "So that like, the Lucifer-God -- and actually the God-Amenadiel stuff -- is like, just, it was such a delight to play with and as you'll see in the trailer, Dennis Haysbert does not lack for moments of emotion of drama and humor."

Henderson added: "So much of Lucifer's relationship with God is about this distance. What was interesting is casting someone who had that inherent warmth, plays against the type you'd expect, but also leans into sort of the fatherly energy that he gives... And it opens up Lucifer in ways he has chosen to close off previously as the 'wayward son.'"

There's also going to be more for Lucifer fans to look forward to after season 5b drops next month. Netflix has also ordered a sixth season after previously announcing that season 5 would be Lucifer's last. It's bittersweet, as while we're all getting another season of the series that was originally cancelled at Fox after just three seasons, the end of the series is still in sight.

"Hard. Beautiful. Bittersweet," Henderson also told Word Balloon about the show's final day of shooting. "Very, very, very emotional... Because it was very sad but also it wasn't... We ended on our terms. We ended with a story we wanted to end with, and we ended with the family that we started with and that was a truly incredible day. Should we be sadder?' We're sad. But, we're really, really happy also with what we were able to do."

Along with Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, Lucifer stars Lauren German as Detective Chloe Decker, D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel, Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin, Kevin Alejandro as Detective Dan Espinoza, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen Smith, and Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez.

Season 5B of Lucifer will arrive on Netflix on May 28. The sixth and final season, which will consist of ten episodes, doesn't yet have a premiere date set. The new trailer for season 5B comes to us from Netflix on YouTube.
