Comedian Amy Schumer is bringing her crass humor to Hulu. The actress has signed a first-look deal with the streaming service. The first project announced is a half-hour comedy series titled Love, Beth. Schumer is expected to star in, write, direct and executive produce the series. Her sister Kim Caramele (Snatched, Inside Amy Schumer) and Kevin Kane (I feel pretty) will also serve as executive producers.

Schumer first made a name for herself in the 2007 season of Last Comic Standing, but has also ventured outside stand-up to find great success. Her sketch comedy series Inside Amy Schumer lasted for four seasons on Comedy Central before ending in 2016. Along with starring in the critically-acclaimed show, Schumer also created, wrote, executive produced, and directed multiple episodes.

After taking a step away from television, Schumer wrote, starred in, and co-produced the popular comedy, Trainwreck with director Judd Apatow. Schumer starred alongside Bill Hader (Barry) as magazine writer Amy (Amy Schumer), whose father always taught her that monogamy was impossible. She enjoys a life free of commitment and full of promiscuity, until she meets the charming sports doctor Aaron Conners (Hader). After falling in love, Amy has to take a close look at her life mottos. The film also features stand out performances from John Cena (Blockers) and NBA legend LeBron James. Despite being marketed as a Bad Teacher-esque film about a horrible person learning a lesson, Trainwreck carried a lot of weight with tragic storylines and snappy dialogue. The Apatow film went on to gross over $140 million worldwide. Schumer has since starred in films like the less popular Snatched with Goldie Hawn and I Feel Pretty with Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea). Love, Beth will mark the comedian's return to television.

Hulu has been taking strides toward diversifying the streaming content it provides by penning deals with creators as Amazon has recently done with actor and creator John Krasinski, as well as following Netflix's model of producing its own content. Recently, Hulu has acquired existing shows and released new seasons as Hulu Originals (Something Netflix has mastered). Veronica Mars saw its revived fourth season this summer with a new direction under the Hulu banner. The streaming service has also recently acquired the Canadian comedy series, Letterkenny which will release its upcoming seventh season as an original. With Hulu now in Disney's hands, the streaming service is likely to become the home to more adult content while the upcoming Disney+ remains true to its name. Hulu has been growing its comedy section with shows like PEN15, Shrill, and Ramy.

Schumer's most recent comedy special, Amy Schumer: Growing, can be streamed on Netflix now. The hour-long special outlines Schumer's new direction for her career as a wife and mother, two things that are in stark opposition to her early stand-up routines. Love, Beth has received a ten episode first season order and is slated to launch in 2020. This news comes to us from Variety.
