After much speculation about the fate of Fox's Lethal Weapon, in the aftermath of on-set allegations against series star Clayne Crawford, the network has now issued an official renewal for Season 3, while announcing that Seann William Scott will come aboard to replace the departing Clayne Crawford. The Fox announcement revealed that Scott will play a new character, "who folds into a partnership with Murtagh (Damon Wayans)". Here's what Michael Thorn, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company, had to say in his statement.

"Seann William Scott is a fantastic addition to this already amazing cast. Lethal Weapon is packed with action, drama and pure fun and we can't wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen. Matt Miller, his incredible team and everyone at Warner Bros. have been tremendous partners, and we're thrilled to bring this show back for another season."

It was reported last week that Clayne Crawford was fired from Lethal Weapon after two seasons of playing Martin Riggs, after allegations surfaced that revealed the actor was creating a hostile working environment and being emotionally abusive. The actor had been reprimanded by the network twice in two seasons, with Crawford himself addressing the incidents on social media. The first incident happened when the actor, "reacted in anger" over working conditions which he felt were unsafe, which lead to the actor completing studio-mandated therapy in October. The second incident happened in April, on an episode Crawford was directing, where a piece of shrapnel from an effect hit an actor.

That actor was said to be Crawford's co-star Damon Wayans, and reports indicated that Crawford's behavior had gotten so bad that Wayans wasn't even on speaking terms with Crawford anymore. The reports of Crawford's firing came as the fate of Lethal Weapon hung in the air, with the network having not issued an official renewal at that time, which lead many to believe that the show would be canceled instead of trying to find an actor to replace Crawford after two seasons. Now that his fate has been officially sealed, Clayne Crawford issued a brief statement on Instagram, congratulating the show on its renewal, even if the show is moving on without him.

"To my cast and crew, CONGRATULATIONS on season 3! To the Fans, thank you for the overwhelming support and love. Riggs was a dream role and the experience will live with me forever. My heart is full. Good Luck nxt season!!"

Lethal Weapon stars Damon Wayans, Keesha Sharp, Kevin Rahm, Jordana Brewster, Johnathan Fernandez, Dante Brown, Chandler Kinney and Michelle Mitchenor will all be returning for the third season, along with series creator Matt Miller and executive producers Dan Lin, Jennifer Gwartz and McG, who directed the pilot episode. The series has averaged a 1.7 rating and a 7 share in L7 (Live+7 day) ratings, along with a multi-platform audience of 8.6 million viewers per week. This new role marks the first network series regular role for Seann William Scott, who is best known as Stifler from the American Pie franchise. On the big screen, he most recently starred in Goon: Last of the Enforcers and last month's Super Troopers 2. He also has another film called Green Dolphin in post-production. Hopefully we hear more from Fox about this new season of Lethal Weapon soon.
