The CW has released the first photos from the DC's Legends of Tomorrow mid-season premiere, Daddy Dahrkest, airing Monday, February 12 at 8 PM ET on The CW. It was confirmed back in October that Matt Ryan's beloved character John Constantine will return to the Arrowverse on Legends of Tomorrow this season, with the character making a surprise appearance in the mid-season finale, Bebo the God of War, setting up his return for the back half of the season. No plot details have been given for this episode yet, but that may certainly change between now and the February 12 premiere date.
The unique journey of John Constantine continues this unconventional path for the DC Comics anti-hero. Matt Ryan first portrayed this iconic character in NBC's critically-acclaimed but underseen series Constantine, which was canceled after just one season. Then in 2015, The CW decided to bring Matt Ryan's Constantine into the Arrowverse, guest-starring in an Arrow episode where he helped Oliver Queen resurrect the White Canary (Caity Lotz). Matt Ryan also voiced John Constantine in last year's Warner Bros. animated movie Justice League Dark, and he will return to voice the character in an upcoming animated digital series on CW Seed.
As for Constantine's return in Season 3 of Legends of Tomorrow, very little is known, but these photos show Constantine conversing with the woman he helped resurrect a few years ago, White Canary. The images also give us new looks at Atom (Brandon Routh), Steel (Nick Zano), Vixen (Maisie Richardson-Sellers), along with a group shot of all the aforementioned actors along with Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Heatwave (Dominic Purcell). Unfortunately, no plot details can be gleaned from these images yet, but with the show's mid-season premiere just a few weeks away, hopefully these photos mean a new trailer will be coming soon.
The return of John Constantine won't be the only shakeup on the show in the back half of this season. Franz Drameh (Jefferson "Jax" Jackson) and Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein), who played both halves of Firestorm, have both exited the show. Filling in for this character will be a holdover from The Flash, with Keiynan Lonsdale bringing his Wally West/Kid Flash character to Legends of Tomorrow, as a series regular. Here's what executive producer Phil Klemmer had to say in a statement about Keiynan Lonsdale joining the team.
"We loved working with Keiynan in our series premiere, the episode in which we learned that in between seasons 2 and 3 he had been fighting crime in Central City with Nick Zano's Nate Heywood. So when his character stepped away from Flash to go on walkabout, after being dumped and feeling somewhat estranged from his family and team, we knew that Wally West would fit in perfectly on Legends. After all, our show is about a collection of unlikely heroes who all began their journeys questioning who they are and where they belong - only to find those answers while traveling through time and having wacky adventures. So now, Wally West is not only back in the company of old friends from the Arrowverse, he's fighting alongside a former enemy and career arsonist Mick Rory/Dom Purcell. By the end of this season, Wally will learn that the Legends have a different definition of what it means to be a hero."
Neither Wally West nor Constantine were seen in the humorous Arrowverse midseason trailer, where all of the heroes were seen suiting up for battle. Wally West has not been seen at all on this season of The Flash, and it has been reported that he won't make a final appearance on The Flash before transitioning to Legends of Tomorrow. His first appearance will be in this season's 11th episode, airing February 19, although he won't officially join the WaveRider team in the 13h episode. Wally had previously appeared on Legends in the Season 3 premiere, so it makes sense that he would join the team full time to fill in for Jax and Dr. Stein. Take a look at a few of these new photos below from the mid-season premiere of Legends of Tomorrow, and head over to TV Line for the rest.
