Lucy Hale posted an emotional message to her fans on social media after the Katy Keene cancelation news dropped. The Riverdale spin-off was not picked up for a second season by The CW for reasons that are currently unknown. Season 1 ended on May 14th, which will now serve as the series finale, at least for the time being. Hale says that the show was "one of the highlights" of her life and that it was a "joy from top to bottom."

When the Katy Keene news dropped, Lucy Hale was caught off guard. She attempted to record a message to fans a few times, but ended up crying, so she had to redo it. "I was like, I don't want to just post a picture or a caption because nothing would do justice to how I feel about Katy Keene or how I feel with the people involved with it," she said. Hale went on and had this to say.

"We did not get picked up for a second season, which happens. It's happened a few times to me and each time it's just like... just heartbreaking. I mean, it's a job that has broken my heart numerous times."

As Lucy Hale teared up, she told her followers, "This is bad, this a bad one... oh my God, sorry, it will take some time to get over." While Hale is clearly emotional about Riverdale spin-off Katy Keene coming to an end, she is grateful that the show happened in the first place. The actress called it "the role of a lifetime" for her, along with the cast and crew of the show. She then went on to thank fans of the YA drama. You can read what she had to say about the fan base below.

"I cannot stress how amazing you are, all the time, no matter what. You've just been there for me and you've supported everything I've done and like, what the f--k? I'm just so lucky... Oh s**t, sorry... If you want to keep supporting our show and watching our show... I actually recommend that, I'm so proud of what we made."

Lucy Hale concluded her message by stating, "I think that sometimes things just don't work out and maybe it was just not the right time for it, I don't know, I'm a little confused." Fans of Katy Keene are probably more than a little confused themselves since the show was pretty popular on the streaming side of things. With that being said, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel for the series.

Katy Keene is currently streaming on HBO Max and it could end up finding a new home there for a second season. The CW has apparently extended the option window for the show until the end of this month, and many are speculating that HBO Max will pick it up for season 2. For now, we'll just have to wait and see. You can watch Lucy Hale's Instagram message to Katy Keene fans above.
