J.J. Abrams is reuniting with his Star Trek Into Darkness star Karl Urban for the new Fox pilot Human.
The story takes place in a futuristic Los Angeles, where every L.A.P.D. cop is paired with a human-like android partner. The actor will play the lead role of John Kennex, a respected cop who has an emotional breakdown when a mission went bad, claiming the lives of nine of his elite cops while also leaving him badly injured. If the project is picked up to series by Fox, it will be Karl Urban's first series regular role on an American TV show.
We reported last month that Michael Ealy is playing a robot cop named Dorian, who partners up with John Kennex. Lili Taylor also stars as Kennex and Dorian's police captain, with Minka Kelly, Mackenzie Crook, and Michael Irby also starring in unspecified roles.
Fringe showrunner J.H. Wyman wrote the pilot script and is executive producing alongside J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk, with Kathy Lingg and Reid Shane co-executive producing. Brad Anderson (The Call) is directing the pilot episode.
