Krysten Ritter spent three seasons playing the titular character on Jessica Jones, and it doesn't seem likely she'll ever play the role again. Following the release of the third and final season of the Marvel series on Netflix, Ritter was asked directly if she would ever reprise the part, and from her point of view, it seems very doubtful. Still, the actress also makes it clear she's more than happy with her run on the series and has no qualms about it coming to an end. "Do I think I'll play her again? I don't think so," Ritter says of Jessica Jones. "I feel like I've played her, you know? I feel really good about it. I feel good about closing the door."

Jessica Jones was the last of the Marvel series to air on Netflix as a part of the streaming giant's Defendersverse. Other shows included in the lineup were Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and, of course, The Defenders. Likely as a result of Disney's merge with Marvel, Netflix went on to announce the cancellations of each of these shows one by one until only Jessica Jones was left. Soon after, it was confirmed the third season would be the final bow for the show. By that point, the decision was in no way surprising, but still a downer as it signaled the official end of the Defendersverse.

Still, fans of the Defendersverse shows were hoping to see some (if not all) of these series be given new life elsewhere. Because Disney now owns Marvel and is gearing up for their own streaming service, it's possible the characters could come back for new shows on Disney+. Hulu would be another viable option, as the service was also recently acquired by the House of Mouse. However, even if there are new home options for the shows, a part of the contract with Netflix stipulates they cannot continue elsewhere until at least two years following a cancellation. This means we couldn't possibly see most of these shows on Hulu or Disney+ until at least 2021, though it's worth noting The Punisher is exempt from this deal as a Daredevil spinoff.

Jessica Jones first premiered on Netflix in the winter of 2015. It tells the story of a former superhero who starts her own detective agency, often using her powers to obtain information. She meets her match in a sinister man with his own unique power called Kilgrave (David Tennant), who has the ability to control minds. The show was met with critical acclaim, ultimately bringing about two additional seasons to close out the Defendersverse. Only Jessica Jones and Daredevil had managed to reach three seasons, as the other characters' solo shows were all axed after two.

We may have seen the last of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, but we haven't seen the last of Ritter herself. As the actress is currently expecting her first child, she may take a sabbatical from her acting career for a time, but we'll likely see her back on screen again soon enough. For her fans, it will be interesting to see which challenges await her next. This information comes to us from TVLine.
