Alfonso Cuarón, best known for directing films such as Children of Men, Y Tu Mama Tambien, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, will make his first foray into American TV with a little help from J.J. Abrams.

The two are collaborating on a new NBC drama about a young girl with special powers. She will slowly come into these powers over the course of seven years, and a man recently sprung from prison is tasked with protecting her from the group hunting her down.

Alfonso Cuarón is co-writing the pilot script and will direct this high-concept first episode. Bad Robot is producing the series, which doesn't quite have a title yet. There is no word on when this series will air.
